Professional Statement

I’m Joshua Neal (he/him), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Seattle, specializing in faith transition/crisis, anxiety, depression, work‑related stress, relationships, and spirituality and lifestyle. At Capitol Hill Therapy, I offer a warm, nonjudgmental space where individuals and couples can reconnect with themselves and pursue meaningful life-change.

Since 2014, I’ve been seeing individuals and couples in my private practice clinic, Capitol Hill Therapy, where I offer a grounded and collaborative approach to psychotherapy. My style is informal yet focused: I listen closely, take your perspectives seriously, and partner with you to set practical goals. Together, we’ll explore how your emotions and behaviors shape each other, equipping you with concrete skills to navigate life’s transitions—whether that’s the pressure of work, navigating a faith transition from an LDS background, or exploring questions of identity and spirituality.

If you’re juggling multiple demands, wondering where your faith fits into your wellbeing, or striving to align your mental health with your values, let’s talk. Capitol Hill Therapy is your ally in creating sustainable coping strategies, deepening self-awareness, and honoring every part of who you are.

Hi, I’m Josh Neal. I’ve been practicing psychotherapy since 2014 and run a private clinic—Capitol Hill Therapy—working with individuals and couples. I’m a certified Gestalt Therapist through GATLA and have served on the faculty of GATSEA, where I helped lead the Gestalt Couples Training Program here in Seattle from 2020-2024. In addition to Gestalt, my work is informed by attachment theory, DBT, ACT, and a holistic, values-centered approach. I’m especially passionate about working with people healing from religious and ideological harm, and helping clients develop lives that feel grounded, meaningful, and truly theirs. I see psychotherapy as a practice of increasing awareness. From that awareness comes more freedom, choice, and vitality. As a supervisor, I value honesty, curiosity, and collaboration. I love working with newer therapists who are reflective, socially conscious, and open to their own growth—personally and professionally. If you’re looking for supervision that welcomes your full self—including your values, your creativity, your stuck points, and your hopes—I’d love to connect. Outside the therapy room, I’m a musician, weightlifter, nature-lover, and dog dad. Let’s grow together.
