I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and own my own teletherapy practice where I serve clients in AZ, UT, VA, FL, and NC. I currently serve as the President of the Mormon Mental Health Association and I’m so happy that you have found our directory! I specialize in working with people who struggle with perfectionism. This includes athletes and other high performing professionals. Sometimes, LDS church culture can contribute to issues related to perfectionism.
Many people with high expectations for themselves feel bogged down with stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship issues. It’s common to feel unsure if you really “need” therapy or wonder if it is a worthwhile investment. You’ve probably been working really hard at life for a long time and there’s a good chance you could manage on your own. But there’s a difference between managing and thriving. It’s okay to have help.
If you’re looking for an LDS therapist, you may be wondering if I am “Mormon Enough”, or alternatively, if I am “Too Mormon” to be relatable and sensitive to your personal situation. Not only am I culturally competent anywhere you may fall on the LDS spectrum of belief/activity, I have extensive ethical training and expertise on how to show up for you where you are. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and friendly. I understand and respect the beliefs of both “all-in” church members and those who have left, and I know how to help you navigate situations where faith, religion, and mental health issues intersect.
I have a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, where I was also an NCAA Division I pole-vaulter and hurdler. My master’s degree in Family Therapy is from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA where my research interests include cultural competence in working with Mormon and athlete populations.
