I am an LCSW licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Utah. As a Utah resident, I work with many Latter-day Saint couples, as well as individuals and couples navigating faith transitions or mixed-faith relationships. I am not an expert in Mormon doctrine, but consider myself LDS-informed. I am familiar with the culture, language, family expectations, community ties, and the role that church participation may play in everyday life. I approach each client without assuming these experiences mean the same thing to everyone.
Couples often contact me because they find themselves having the same argument over and over, no longer feel heard in their relationship, or feel as though they have become roommates rather than romantic partners. Drawing heavily from the Gottman Method, we work together to identify more effective ways to navigate conflict interactions, repair trust and hurt feelings, and reach workable compromises.
My individual clients are often physicians, academics, attorneys, and other professionals. High achievers may feel as though they carry the weight of the world on their shoulders, leading to exhaustion, isolation, and an inability to slow down.
Much of my work with individuals and couples incorporates mindfulness practices drawn from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I teach concrete skills for handling intense emotions, tolerating distress, and communicating more effectively with your spouse, colleagues, family members, and friends.
My style is to be directive in therapy, meaning I will often offer suggestions for things to think about and do, rather than just listen. Most therapy feels good. You’ll leave sessions feeling understood, supported, and sometimes challenged. Because that’s how change happens.
