Professional Statement

Many people who question or leave high-control religious systems experience a profound period of transition. What is often called a faith crisis or faith transition can bring grief, anxiety, identity confusion, family strain, and deep existential questions. Clients I work with are often navigating life after Mormonism, post-Mormon identity shifts, religious trauma, spiritual abuse, mixed-faith relationships, or the lingering effects of religious scrupulosity and shame.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, clinical supervisor, and founder of Inner Compass Counseling & Consultation, a trauma-informed therapy practice serving clients in both Arizona and Utah. My clinical work focuses specifically on religious trauma syndrome, faith deconstruction, and the psychological impact of high-demand religious environments. I am trained in EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and I integrate these evidence-based approaches to help clients process trauma, understand internal conflict, and build emotional regulation and resilience.

In addition to my clinical practice, I serve as on the board of the Mormon Mental Health Association, contributing to professional education and advocacy for ethical mental health care for individuals navigating faith transitions. I have presented and taught on religious trauma, faith deconstruction, and identity reconstruction in professional, academic, and community settings, and I regularly consult with clinicians who work with clients leaving high-control religious systems.

My work often focuses on helping people untangle inherited beliefs from their authentic values, rebuild trust in their own internal compass, and develop a more compassionate relationship with themselves and their bodies. I also work with couples navigating mixed-faith marriages and the relational shifts that often accompany belief change.
Whether you are questioning, leaving, rebuilding, or simply trying to understand your experience, therapy can be a place to explore your story with curiosity, care, and support.
